No. 5 UW-L men’s basketball, in Sweet 16 for 1st time in history, hosts next two rounds
For the first time in UW-La Crosse history, the men’s basketball team is in the Sweet 16.
The Eagles, ranked fifth in the nation, will host No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan (24-5) at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner will play at 7 p.m. Saturday against either No. 22 Wisconsin Lutheran or 17th-ranked Washington-St. Louis.
To get to the Sweet 16, UW-L blew out Greenville University 120-93 at the La Crosse Center on Friday and then took down St. Norbert 77-67 at the Center on Saturday.
Those two tournament victories extended UW-L’s single-season record for wins to 24-5.
The Eagles are now 3-3 all-time in the NCAA D-3 tournament. This is their fourth-ever trip to the postseason.
