Up against some of the top sprinters in the world, UW-La Crosse junior Lauren Jarrett broke her own NCAA Division III record — again — Sunday in the 60-meter dash competing in her first-ever USATF indoor championships.
Jarrett was up against the 15th-, 37th and 38th-ranked sprinters in the world in Adidas-sponsored Celera Barnes (15th) and Mikiah Brisco (38th), as well as Nike’s Jacious Sears (37th). Barnes and Sears took first and second, respectively, by a difference of .003 seconds.
Jarrett, who was the only collegiate runner, finished in 7.29 seconds, taking sixth. That broke her old record, set Feb. 8, of 7.34.
Jarrett, the NCAA DIII defending 60m champion, has the Top 4 fastest times in DIII history and seven of the Top 10 times.
In a “photo finish,” Barnes won in 7.104 seconds to Sears’ 7.107 seconds. Brisco came in third at 7.18 seconds.
While those three are ranked in the Top 50 of the 100m (the closest equivalent to the indoor 60m), Jarrett is ranked 360th. The top USA athlete in the 100m is Sha’Carri Richardson. She’s ranked second.
(In the race shown below, Jarrett is lined up third from the left out of the eight runners.)

Jarrett wasn’t the only UW-L athlete competing. On the men’s side, Oshkosh native Sam Blaskowski finished 14th (6.68) in the 60m prelims. This was his third trip to the USATF indoor championships.
