It’s been a rollercoaster season for UW-La Crosse running back Gabe Lynch. Prior to last week’s win over UW-River Falls, Lynch had one game over 100 yards and three under 50 yards.

In the Eagles (4-3, 2-2) 28-24 victory over the Falcons, though, Lynch set career highs in both carries (38) and yards (229). He also scored a touchdown.

Of those 38 carries, he had a ridiculous 27 in the second half, where he went off for 159 yards. UW-L coach Matt Janus said, at a certain point, the philosophy became run him until he can’t anymore — and that never happened.

“It was like, ‘Is he tired or is he good still?'” Janus said. “If they’re going to put two on (wideout) Jack Studer, which they did most of the third quarter, it was looking at Gabe and if he looked like he was alright we were going to keep going to him.”

Clearly, he was alright.

Janus said the offense is much more dynamic when Lynch is making an impact.

“When he gets going, it’s pretty scary,” Janus said. “You’re starting to see glimpses of it. You saw it a little in the UW-Eau Claire game and obviously last week. He starts breaking tackles and you see the vision he has with the plays that we’re running.”

Janus gave game balls to the offensive line, calling it the toughest performance by a position group in his career at UW-La Crosse.
