Onalaska’s Cade Laufenberg tops locally in Bassmaster Open that’s taken over Mississippi River

Over 220 boaters and another 120 anglers took over Veterans Freedom Park and the surrounding Mississippi River for the Bassmasters Open the past two days.

The Top 10 fishers will compete Saturday for the championship and a $50,000 prize. Second place gets $20,000. Chris Hellebuyck sits atop the leaderboard, while Chris Beaudrie is in second.

Onalaska’s Cade Laufenberg is tops among local fishers in 16th place, while La Crosse’s Mike Brueggen was 18th. Holmen’s Jeremiah Shaver ended in 21st and Onalaska’s Kevin Ruh finished 29th.

Day 3 coverage on the Mississippi River airs from 7-10 a.m. Saturday on FS1.
