Former Loggers OF Griffin Conine makes MLB debut, dominates in 2nd MLB game
Former La Crosse Loggers outfielder, Griffin Conine, made his MLB debut this week for the Miami Marlins.
While he went 0-for-1 in his first-ever appearance Monday against the Rockies, the 27-year-old lit it up the next night.
Conine was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and two runs scored in helping the Marlins beat the Rockies, 9-8. Conine, the next night, went 1-for-4.
Conine played for the Loggers in 2016. He was drafted out of Duke in 2018 in the second round by the Toronto Blue Jays.
With the Loggers that season, Conine hit .286 with 16 home runs, 15 doubles and a triple. He drove in 47, stole 16 bases and scored 43 runs.
After the 2020 season, Toronto sent Conine to the Marlins as the player to be named later in the Jonathan Villar trade.
Conine started the 2021 season in High-A with the Beloit Snappers before being promoted to Double-A with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
He hit 36 home runs and drove in 84, batting .218 in a combined 108 games with the two squads.
He stayed in Pensacola in 2022, hitting .215 with 24 home runs, 74 RBI and 55 runs scored in 118 games.
He started last season in the same place ,but moved to Triple-A’s Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 87 games in, and hit .247 with 20 homers and 72 RBI.
Prior to his callup, Conine was hitting .268 with 19 home runs, 21 doubles and 68 RBI.
