Loggers fight rain, get win to end season’s 1st half as division champs
It took a bit longer than normal, being the rainy weather wasn’t very cooperative, but the La Crosse Loggers baseball team pulled out an 8-2 win over Mankato at Copeland Park on Tuesday.
The top of the order did most of the damage, led by Gable Mitchell who was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
The Loggers (22-12) are back at it Wednesday at Copeland Park with Eau Claire (15-20) in town for a pair of games, including on July 4.
This will be the first game of the second half of the season. The Loggers won the Great Plains East division to guarantee a playoff spot.
Last season, ironically, the Loggers were the worst team in the division’s first half, but won the second half and came within a game of getting to the Northwoods World Series.
