WATCH: At Copeland Park, Avary Makarewicz hits first home run in La Crosse Steam history
Avary Makarewicz hit the first home run in La Crosse Steam history, breaking a 2-2 tie with a three-run shot in the third inning Tuesday night at Copeland Park. The Steam hit three homers in the doubleheader that featured 512 fans.
Makarewicz was 3-for-4 in Game 1 against Madison. The Steam dropped both games, 12-3 and 6-3, and are now 1-4 on the season, having won their first-ever game last Saturday.
It wasn’t the only home run for the Steam on the night, either. In Game 2, both Calli Janik and Teagan Graul went yard at Copeland Park.
All five games to start the inaugural season have been between Madison and La Crosse. That changes Wednesday, when the Steam host the Minot Honeybees at 6:35 p.m. at Copeland.
The Honeybees are also 1-4.
The Steam are the softball equivalent to the La Crosse Loggers baseball team.
This is the first year of the Northwood Softball League and only league of its kind in the nation, where collegiate softball players can continue playing in the summer. There are four teams in the league this season, with more expected to be added next summer.
