La Crosse Steam softball wins first-ever game Saturday at Copeland, falls to Madison on Sunday
Over 2,100 showed up to witness the La Crosse Steam softball team play and win its first-ever game.
A two-run fifth was all the Steam needed to beat the Madison Night Mares 2-1 on Saturday at Copeland Park.
The Steam’s first runs ever came on an Ashlee Chantos triple — the first Northwoods Softball League triple — down the leftfield line with two outs in the fifth. Ashley Wolfe scored, after she had walked. Grace Frechette followed Chatos with an RBI single to give the Steam a 2-1 lead.
