A Chippewa River lake sturgeon was just discovered far from its Jim Falls home — 651 miles, in fact.
The giant fish was found at Lock 26 on the Mississippi River, near Alton, Ill., by two Missouri conservation biologists.
It’s the longest-known distance a lake sturgeon from the Chippewa has ever traveled, according to the Wisconsin DNR.
The sturgeon had a Wisconsin floy tag on it, allowing it to be tracked.
