Coulee Region fixated on both men’s and women’s tourney Friday with Badgers, Onalaska’s Donarkski playing
The games are spread enough apart, but the Coulee Region will be tuned into both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments on Friday.
Of course, the fifth-seeded Badgers open against No. 12 James Madison at 8:40 p.m.
Way before that, however, on the women’s side, Onalaska native Lexi Donarski and eighth-seeded North Carolina take on No. 9 Michigan State. That game begins at 10:30 a.m. on ESPN2.
While the Badgers have the dreaded 5-12 matchup and then could see Duke in Round 2, things aren’t any easier for the Tar Heels.
If North Carolina can get by Michigan State, they’ll face off against the top seed in the tournament, South Carolina, which has a 103-2 record the past three seasons.
Read more about that matchup here.
Donarksi is North Carolina’s defensive and 3-point specialist. She also barely ever comes off the court. Her first four games for the Tar Heels, she played all 40 minutes. The “redshirt” senior played all of regulation and overtime in back-to-back games at Duke and home against No. 17 Virginia Tech in early February.
In all, Donarski’s played nine games where she never came off the court.
Donarski averages 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds. She’s shooting 34.6 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 2.3 3-pointers per game.
