WKTY Cares Supports Gear Up Inc.

The WKTY Cares January recipient is GearUp Inc., an incredible non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that first-generation and lower-income graduating seniors have the resources and supplies they need to thrive in their post-secondary adventure.

With the help and support of their families, educators, and community mentors, these students have accomplished the exciting milestone of acceptance into college or a skilled training program. However, the cost of purchasing the supplies necessary to get started on their journey can be overwhelming. These items include dorm room essentials, technology tools, and materials required for various programs. The goal of GearUp is to eliminate the stress of funding these items so students can walk onto campus confident that they belong and are supplied with the tools they need to succeed.

Last year GearUp Inc. helped 12 new students while continuing to financially support students from the previous years. Since they have started, they have supported over 20 students.
