Onalaska’s Lexi Donarski drops 23 on No. 6 NC State, in Tar Heels win
Onalaska native Lexi Donarski had a team-high 23 points in leading the North Carolina women’s basketball team to an 80-70 upset win over No. 6 NC State.
Donarski shot a ridiculous 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. She was 9 of 16 from the field and added four rebounds, an assist and just one turnover in 38 minutes.
“It’s no secret that Donarski is a great 3-point shooter and we let her hit five,” N.C. State coach Wes Moore said.
This is the fourth time this season Donarski has scored 20 or more points and hit five or more from beyond the arc.
The Tar Heels (18-9, 10-5 ACC), who never trailed after the first quarter, pushed their lead to 14 points in the fourth when Donarski swished her final 3-pointer.
Aziaha James led the Wolfpack (23-4, 11-4) with 24 points.
Three weeks ago, the Tar Heels fell 63-59 to then fifth-ranked NC State. That came in a the midst of a four-game losing streak. Since, North Carolina has won three consecutive games, but it doesn’t get any easier this weekend. The Tar Heels are at No. 8 and ACC-leading Virginia Tech (22-4) on Sunday.
