For 2nd straight, Onalaska’s Donarski plays entire overtime game, but Tar Heels lose at Duke
For the second-consecutive game, Onalaska native Lexi Donarski played every minute. And, for the second time in a row, her North Carolina women’s basketball team fell in overtime.
Donarski had 11 points, four rebounds, an assist and just one turnover in 45 minutes, as the Tar Heels fell 68-60 in overtime to Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Donarski said last week on La Crosse Talk PM it would be her first time playing at Duke. The senior shot 4-for-8 from the field and 2 of 4 from beyond the arc.
The Tar Heels have now lost four consecutive games — two to ranked opponents, including No. 5 NC State. The combined records of those four teams is 69-26.
NORTH CAROLINA’S LAST FOUR OPPONENTS
81-66 L to Virginia (12-12)
63-59 L to No. 3 NC state (21-3)
70-61 L OT to No. 17 Virginia Tech (20-4)
68-60 OT L to Duke (16-7)
North Carolina (15-9, 7-5 ACC) went on a 20-9 third quarter run to go up 46-34. The Blue Devils (16-7, 8-4), however, answered with a 19-7 fourth to force overtime.
Before that, however, Donarski did put North Carolina up 53-51 with a bucket and the foul with 2:25 remaining in regulation.
Duke, however, tied the game two possessions later — after an NC turnover — and Donarski missed a go-ahead jumper with 1:04 to go, eventually leading to overtime.
In overtime, the game was tied 58-58, before Duke went ahead at the 2:21 mark and closed the period on 10-2 run.
