Pet therapy pups, $25k, $10k hole-in-one contests — a few spots remain for Friday’s Rounds for Rescues to help Coulee Region Humane Society
A big fundraiser Friday to help the Coulee Region Humane Society, which is running over capacity right now.
“We have been operating with a lot more animals over the last few months than normal,” Coulee Region executive director Heather Drievold said last week on La Crosse Talk PM. “We’re always operating at a high level — high 200s. But, we’ve been, actually, just over 300 lately and we feel it.”
La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.
The fifth-annual Rounds For Rescues golf outing still has a few foursome spots available. The event has a little something for everyone.
There are $10,000 and $25,000 hole-in-one contests. A putting challenge to win $3,000. And, even if you’re terrible at golf, you can still go play with the pet therapy dogs that will be at Fox Hollow Golf Course.

What fundraisers like Round for Rescues really help with at the Humane Society, are the animals that come in neglected or even injured.
“Our biggest need every year — that annually increases pretty significantly — is the animal care line that we have,” Drievold said. “And really that’s spades and neuters, leg amputations, surgeries, dental works, eye infections. Just anything and everything, medically speaking, that you can think of for animals.”
Those medical costs can add up, but it means families won’t have that burden.
“We try to do everything that we are aware of, while they’re with us,” Drievold said. “So that a doctor can take that animal and it is healthy and sound and ready to go into a new home. But, with doing that, that obviously increases our costs in those avenues because there’s a lot of animals that need a lot of work when they come to us.”
