La Crosse Loggers get 2-1 playoff win in 9th, head to Copeland on Monday to finish series
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — A ninth-inning score on the road in front of nearly 800 fans is how the La Crosse Loggers opened the playoffs Sunday night, beating Eau Claire 2-1 at Carson Park.
Matthew Piotrowski got the go-ahead, RBI single in the ninth for the Loggers, who play at home Monday looking to advance in the best-of-3 series.

The Loggers had lost twice to Eau Claire just a few days ago but are 10-3 this season against the Express, including Sunday night’s win.
Dan Merkel got the win, pitching seven shutout innings, giving up six hits and two walks, while striking out three. Tony Pluta got the save. He pitched the final two innings, didn’t give up a hit but walked four and struck out three.
Brenadan Moody is La Crosse’s starter Monday. He’s 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA over five starts this season.
