No. 2 Viterbo volleyball wins first match of NAIA tourney, improves to 39-1 heading into Wed.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The No. 2-ranked Viterbo University women’s volleyball team needed all five sets Tuesday to win its opening game of the NAIA tournament.

The V-Hawks beat No. 25 Oregon Tech 22-25, 32-30, 26-24, 22-25, 15-13 in the first game of pool play.

The win puts Viterbo at 39-1 on the season, as it gets set to play at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday against Concordia (Neb.), which is 18-11 on the season and finished the year ranked 19th.

Miah Garant had 20 kills, hitting .410. for the V-Hawks on Tuesday, while Kenzie Winker had 18 digs, 11 kills, though she hit just .085 perecent.

With a five-set match, the stats were up there. Grace Rohde had 14 kills, Kenidi McCabe had 17 digs and Adrianna Reinhart had 13 digs for Viterbo.

Maya Roberts added seven kills, six digs and six block-assists. She did, however, hit just .074 percent for Viterbo.

Oregon Tech finished with 26 block-assists. Both teams hit .168.

The setters for the V-Hawks combined for 55 assists, led by Lauryn Sobasky’s 31. Abbey Johnson had 24 assists, 14 digs.
