Onalaska boys win D1 state; Aquinas D3 championship streak ends
A state championship for the Onalaska High School boys cross country team thanks to a total team effort.
Nobody placed in the Top 5 for the Hilltoppers but everyone came in the Top 30 in the Division 1 race from the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
Onalaska freshman Manny Putz placed seventh overall, finishing in 15 minutes, 59.6 seconds.
The next best freshman in the field of 187 came in 96th.
The rest of the Hilltoppers finished like this:
- Ron Walters (12) 16:25.7
- Austin Oyen (12) 16:41.8
- Tyler Lee (12) 16:48.8
In Division 2, West Salem took seventh as a team, while Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau took 14th in the 16-team field. On the girls side, West Salem placed 12th.
In Division 3, Aquinas took eighth overall out of 16 teams, led by sophomore Jonathan Skemp, who finished 16th (17:12.8).
Cochrane-Fountain City junior Wesley Pronschinske took fifth overall (16:43.2).
