An event Sunday looks to give children an opportunity to try hockey.
From learning to skate to taking that first slap shot, River City Youth Hockey (RCYH) is hosting the “Try Hockey” event from 2-4 p.m. at the Green Island Ice Arena (map).
Coach and volunteer Lucas Schwaller told Z93 equipment will be provided. He’ll be one of the coaches helping out.
“It’ll be a lot of fun,” Schwaller said. “A really fun afternoon of hockey for kids who have never gotten to get on the ice before.”
River City Youth Hockey is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization committed to making hockey accessible to all children of La Crosse, regardless of their socioeconomic status or background. It primarily serves children ages 4-16 and currently has over 150 players in the program.
Green Island Ice Arena is maintained by RCYH — the only indoor ice rink in the city of La Crosse. Green Island is home to curling and figure skating clubs, along with Coulee Region Sled Hockey, which is an organization that brings the sport of hockey to children and adults with physical challenges.
Another event is scheduled for Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. – noon, which one includes free pizza.
