Onalaska loses 6-1 in D1 state opener
FOND du LAC, Wis. — The Onalaska High School baseball team was eliminated from the state tournament Friday.
The Hilltopppers lost to Sun Prairie 6-1 in the Division 1 quarterfinals.
Griffin Schultz was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Hilltoppers (17-10), who last went to state in 1994. Schultz’s hit tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third.
Sun Prairie (27-2), however, came right back and broke the game wide open with a five-run bottom of three.
Bryce Hoeft started and went two innings, giving up four hits and three walks for Onalaska. He had one strikeout.
Ben Faas relieved him and only lasted 2/3 an inning, giving up three hits and three runs — but only one earned.
Evan Gamoke finished things off for Onalaska, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
Jackson Hunley went all seven for Sun Prairie, striking out six, while giving up three hits and two walks.
