Overall record: 108-81

How did I get here?: The Colts/Raiders did what we expected them to do and that was go OVER the total of 51 ½ points on Sunday. That they went SO far over that total was as little surprising, giving the Colts a 44-27 win, and securing a COVER on our bet. That was our lone win this weekend because……

The Green Bay Packers did what nearly EVERY one of my guests last week warned me would happen…they DID NOT cover their (-7.5) spread. They could have. They should have. Once again SPECIAL TEAMS was an achilles heel for Green Bay who after going up 10 on Mason Crosby’s (career long) 58 yard  field goal the Packers had the cover in hand with less than 4 minutes in the game.

Had the Packers simply done a better job on the kick-off return, backup QB Chase Daniels (who entered the game for Matt Stafford who was injured on a hit by Kennty Clark), would have had to drive the Lions downfield. However, Green Bay once again failed on special teams, setting the Lions up in good position, leading to a Detroit field goal…and the un-doing of my bet.

Yes the Packers won, and they are now in 1st place in the NFC after a Saints (24-21) loss to the Eagles and rookie QB Jalen Hurts, but like I was saying all morning on the show. I don’t really care. I wanted the COVER, and Green Bay didn’t….so while it was a win….it was really a LOSS for me, which in terms of betting, is all I cared about.

Thanks Pack (sarcastic typing fingers)….

What’s on the table today?: A rare stab at College Basketball tonight. So far I’ve only taken 2 college games this season going 1-1.

Normally in this spot I’d look to Monday Night Football *(Ravens @ Browns)* but since the metrics, recent numbers, and a season of totally up and down performances by both clubs, I simply couldn’t come up with anything telling me, one way or the other, something that I could form into a good bet. With that being the case, I just didn’t take the game.

Instead, I decided to go out on a limb and jump into Big Ten hoops tonight with Maryland hosting #21 Rutgers, taking Maryland MINUS two points (-2)

Rutgers is currently undefeated, and recently off a nice 10 point win over Syracuse, features former NBA all-star Ron Harper’s son (Ron Harper Jr) who is lighting it up this year, averaging more than 22 points a game.

Maryland is 4-1 so far this year and recently lost to Clemson 67-51, but it was on the road, and without much knowledge about either Clemson, or Maryland, I’m going to say it was not an a-typical game for either team, however this game (vs Rutbgers) should be a bit of a tell.

The Terps hold a decided series advantage over Rutgers (winning 8 of the last 9 match-ups) , and while Rutgers is playing very well so far this season, outside of Syracuse, they’ve played very small schools. The Big Ten is a much different animal.

Finally, when taking a look the trends (which there aren’t much of) take a gander at these from Oddsshark.com, and maybe you’ll agree. While we (the nation at large) all won’t be watching this game, I’m taking this as the best bet of the night, and today’s Rocky’s Supper Club Daily Play.

Maryland is:

  • 4-2 ATS in its last six games
  • 4-1 ATS in its last five games as a favorite
