Few players in Packers history, if not NFL history, have left a list of achievements and milestones as long and as illustrious as Willie Davis.

Davis, 85, died today, in a Santa Monica, Calif., hospital, after being there for about a month with kidney failure, according to Packers.com.

Davis was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981, following a 12-year NFL career that included a decade with the Packers (1960-69). He never missed a game with the Packers.

The five-time pro-bowler was the defensive end on all five of Vince Lombardi’s NFL championship teams.

Davis was the first African-American captain in Packers history, starting in 1965 when Vince Lombardi appointed him to share the duties on defense with safety Hank Gremminger.

Davis became the sole defensive captain in 1966.
