Seven entered, only one survived Round 2 of WIAA football playoffs
Seven area football teams headed into the second round of the WIAA playoffs, including three from the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Only one survived.
Second-seeded and third-ranked Bangor (11-0), which is two years removed from a Division 7 state title, defeated No. 3 Independence/Gilmanton 60-6 on Friday.
The Cardinals now head to the quarterfinals, where they will rematch with second-ranked Edgar – a team that defeated Bangor 29-6 last year in the semifinals.
Edgar (11-0), which went on to win the D7 state championship last season, defeated No. 4-seed Pittsville 35-0 on in Round 2 and will host the 7 p.m. game Friday.
