Seven former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student-athletes will be inducted into the university’s Wall of Fame this weekend..
The seven alumni: Jason Gonnion (1991-93), Bill Hehli (1991-94 player; 1995-present coach), Bob Hehli (1994-97), Julia (Rudd) Webb (2001-06), Mike Schnur (1993-97), Nina Schubert (2002-06) and Joe Werner (2003-07).
The inductees will be honored at halftime of the football game against UW-Oshkosh, which begins at 2 p.m. They will also be honored during a brunch at 10 a.m. Sunday at the student union.
Here’s a look at those being inducted:
Jason Gonnion
Athlete: 1991-93
Gonnion earned All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) First Team honors in 1992 and 1993 while being named the WIAC Player of the Year in 1993. He finished 159-of-283 (56.2%) for 2,315 yards and 19 touchdowns in 1992 while totaling 2,391 offensive yards. His 2,391 total yards ranks sixth in single-season school history while his 19 touchdowns ranks seventh and 2,315 yards is eighth. 
The starting quarterback for the 1992 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championship team, Gonnion was named to the Football Gazette First Team and Champion U.S.A. Second Team All-America Teams in 1992. He ranks third in career passing efficiency (146.15), fifth in career touchdowns (38) and seventh in total offensive yards (4,525). He is ninth in career completions (291) and passing yards (4,375) while ranking 12th in career attempts (509).
He has two of the top-seven single-game passing marks in school history. Gonnion’s 462 yards (four touchdowns) in a 42-32 victory at UW-Eau Claire November 13, 1993 ranks third in school history while his 397 yards in a 34-9 win over Central College (Iowa) in the second round of the 1992 national playoffs is seventh.
Gonnion was a member of three WIAC Championship teams (1991, 1992, 1993) at UWL. Along with the NCAA III title in 1992, the Eagles advanced to the national quarterfinals in 1991 and 1993. He served as team captain in 1993.
Gonnion earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management in 1995 and currently serves as the athletic director at Woodbury (Minn.) High School.
Bill Hehli
Athlete: 1991-94
Coach: 1995-present
Hehli earned six All-WIAC honors in tennis from 1990-94 while qualifying for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament in 1991. He was a nationally ranked player at the NCAA Division III level in 1993-94.
Currently in his 23rd year as head coach of the UWL men’s and women’s teams, Hehli also serves as assistant media relations director at the university.
In 22 years as the men’s coach, Hehli has led the team to a 295-171 (.633) dual match record. Several players have been individually ranked nationally and in the Midwest under Hehli. UWL finished 21-3 in 2015, setting a single-season school record for victories. The Eagles had an 18-match winning streak during the season while finishing 13th in the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region rankings.
Hehli has led the women’s squad to a winning record in each of his first 22 seasons as head coach while being ranked in the NCAA Division III Midwest Region the past 19 years. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round in 2007.
UWL captured the 2003, 2005, and 2006 WIAC Women’s Championship under Hehli, who has been named the WIAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, 2005, 2012). The Eagles set a single-season school record for dual wins in 2010-11 and 2011-12, finishing 21-5 each year. 
Entering the 2017-18 season, Hehli had compiled a career dual record of 640-281 at UWL, including 345-110 (.758) with the women’s team and 295-171 (.633) with the men’s squad.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from UWL in mass communications in 1995 and his master’s in sports administration in 1999.
Bob Hehli
Athlete: 1994-97
Hehli was named to the WIAC Men’s Tennis All-Time Team in 2011 in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration. He was one of 12 players selected to the WIAC All-Time Team.
Finishing with a 72-23 career singles record, Hehli was 20-3 in 1994 while placing third at No. 4 singles at the WIAC Championships. Hehli was on the winning No. 2 doubles team with Dan Anderson at the 1994 conference championships. He finished 21-7 in singles in 1995. Hehli compiled a 64-31 career doubles record at UWL.
He competed in the 1997 NCAA III Championships and earned Interscholastic Tennis Association (ITA) All-America honors.
Hehli earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education teaching in 1999 and is currently an elementary school principal in the Amphitheater Public Schools in Tucson, Arizona.
Julia (Rudd) Webb
Athlete: 2001-06
Named to the All-WIAC Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field Team, Rudd competed in cross country at UWL from 2001-03 and 2005 and in track & field from 2002-06. She earned the WIAC individual cross country title in 2002 and 2005 while finishing second in 2003. 
Rudd was a member of two team conference championship teams (2002, 2005). She was a three-time NCAA Division III All-America in cross country, placing second in 2005, 23rd in 2002 and 26th in 2013. Rudd won the 2005 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional championship.
Rudd holds the school record in the indoor 5,000-meter run (17:05.81) and was a two-time NCAA III All-America in the event, placing fifth in 2006 and eighth in 2004. She won the 3,000-meter run at the 2004 and 2006 WIAC Indoor Championship and the 5,000-meter run in 2003 and 2006. A member of three WIAC indoor championship teams (2003, 2004, 2005), Rudd was named the 2006 WIAC Track Performer of the Meet.
She earned four career outdoor NCAA III All-America accolades in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, including winning the national title and setting a national record in 2004. Rudd was third nationally in 2002, 2005 and 2006 while also placing fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 2004 and sixth in 2006.
The only three-time WIAC champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (2004, 2005, 2006), Rudd also won the conference outdoor title in the 5,000-meter run in 2004. She was named the 2006 WIAC Scholar-Athlete for the outdoor season while being a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year. Rudd helped lead UWL to two (2003, 2005) outdoor conference championships.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2006. Rudd is CEO of Elite Onsite Fleet Services in Portland, Ore.
Mike Schnur
Athlete: 1993-97
Selected to the WIAC All-Time Track & Field Team, Schnur was a six-time conference 
champion in the pole vault at UWL.
He captured the league title three times during the indoor (1994, 1995, 1996) and outdoor (1994, 1995, 1997) season. Schnur was named the 1996 WIAC Indoor Field
Performer of the Meet. He won the NCAA Division III indoor pole vault championship in 1994 and 1996 while placing second in 1995.
Schnur was a member of four (1994-97) WIAC Indoor Championship squads and two (1994, 1997) NCAA Division III Indoor Championship teams.
Along with the three outdoor conference titles in the pole vault, Schnur captured the 1997 title in the decathlon. He won the NCAA Division III Outdoor crown in the pole vault in 1994, 1995 and 1997 while also finishing seventh nationally in the decathlon in 1997.
Schnur was a member of four (1994-97) WIAC Outdoor Championship squads and one (1997) NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship team.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management. Schnur is the lead utility operator for the City of Mounds View, Minnesota.
Nina Schubert
Athlete: 2002-06
Schubert won three National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships 
on the uneven parallel bars, claiming the title in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
She is one of two gymnasts in NCGA history to capture three crowns in the uneven parallel bars. Her score 9.825 on the uneven parallel bars at the 2006 national championships is tied for second in school history. She finished second on the uneven parallel bars at the 2003 national meet. Schubert was named to the 2006 NCGA All-Academic Team.
Selected to the WIAC All-Time Team, Schubert won the league title on the uneven parallel bars in 2004 and was named the 2006 WIAC Scholar-Athlete.
Schubert won three (2004-06) uneven parallel bars titles at the UWL Gershon/McLellan Invitational. She was a member of four WIAC and NCGA Championship teams.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2006. Schubert is the diving coach at the Dresden Sport Club in Dresden, Germany.
Joe Werner
Athlete: 2003-07
Werner was a member of basketball team for four seasons. He was named to the WIAC All-Time Team, earning a pair of National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-America selections. Werner was a 2005-06 third team choice and 2006-07 second team honoree. He was also voted to the 2006-07 D3hoops.com All-America Fourth Team. 
A three-time (2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07) WIAC First Team selection, Werner was voted the league’s player of the year in 2006-07 and named one of 10 finalists for The Jostens Trophy for the NCAA Division III Player of the Year. He is one three players in school history to earn three first team all-conference honors and was the first player since John Mielke in 1980-81 to be named the WIAC Player of the Year. Werner was selected the WIAC Player of the Week seven times in his career.
UWL finished 20-8 in 2005-06, recording its most wins since 1982-83. The Eagles made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2006. Werner helped lead UWL to a 19-8 record in 2006-07 as the team advanced to the WIAC Tournament Championship game for the first time in school history. UWL’s 39 wins during the two-year span of 2005-07 were the most since the team won 40 games between 1975-77.
Playing in 104 career games for the Eagles, including 94 starts, Werner ranks second in school history in career rebounds (829), blocks (70) and field goal percentage (.565) and sixth in scoring (1,398). He is also sixth in career field goals made (571), eighth in attempts (1,010), sixth in free throw attempts (373), 11th in free throw made (255) and 11th in steals (95).
He earned his bachelor’s degree in international management in 2006 and his MBA in 2008. Werner is a marketing representative agent for Federated Insurance.
