WATCH TONIGHT: Central, Aquinas looking to end losing streaks
After opening the season with a win, Central High School’s football team is in the midst of a three-game slide.
At 6:45 p.m. tonight, pregame begins on WKTY 96.7 FM/580 AM for the Red Raiders’ matchup with Aquinas in a Mississippi Valley Conference contest. You can also watch the game live here or from the WKTY Facebook page.
Central coach Tony Servais said his defense, which is giving up 40 points per game during the losing streak, has simply gone up against talented teams.
Central has lost those games by an average of 21 points. Servais says, however, it’s not sophomore quarterback Johnny Davis’s fault.
“It’s pretty remarkable to see where he’s at right now,” Servais said. “There’s been time where those receivers have kind of let him down dropping some passes they should have caught.
“He does a nice job leading us.”
Davis has 1,039 yard passing, going 71 of 146 (48.6%). He has nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
Both Central and Aquinas (0-4) are sitting at the bottom of the MVC standings at 0-2.
Servais says the Blugolds, who are giving up 38 points a game and have scored just six points in their last two contests, are hurt by their low participation numbers.
“Hopefully we can take advantage of that,” he said. “We have less guys than they do, going both ways.
“That was kind of by design for us, this year, with our uptempo offense, too, to try and wear guys out.”
