Wisconsin-Notre Dame football series expected to be announced today
It appears as though the University of Wisconsin and Notre Dame football teams will finally play each other … in five years.
The two powerhouses are expected to announce the decision today, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Wisconsin and Notre Dame have not met since 1964.
The teams will play at Lambeau Field in 2020 and at Soldier Field in 2021. The Badgers beat LSU at Lambeau Field last season.
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, who has tried to schedule a matchup against the Irish in the past, was an assistant under Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz from 1987-89.
Three weeks ago, Green Bay Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said: “I would say we’ve been working on that for a while and I’m very, hopefully very soon we’ll be able to make an announcement.”
Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said at Big Ten media days in Chicago: “I don’t know where all those conversations are at, but I think it could be pretty cool.”
