Logan, CJ Siegel ready for big football season
He’s a do-it-all athlete for Logan High School.
CJ Siegel has excelled in football, basketball and track. A year from now, he’ll be getting ready to play Division I football at a position he’s never played before.
For the Rangers, Siegel plays wide receiver and safety.
Next year, for North Dakota, where Siegel accepted a scholarship to play football in late June, the 6-footer will play cornerback.
“He’s not an overly impressive kid to look at physically,” Logan coach Casey Knoble said. “But he’s extremely strong, extremely thick. Just a very gifted kid. Extremely fun to coach.”
In track, Siegel is a two-time state qualifier in the long jump. He also ran on the 1,600-relay team that medalled at state last spring.
In basketball, he averaged 17.3 points, 5.2 rebounds last season.
He had scholarship offers in both sports.
In football, Siegel led Logan to a 6-3 season with 743 yards receiving, another 217 rushing and 15 touchdowns.
Now, the senior hopes to get Logan beyond the second round of the playoffs, where it has lost the last two seasons.
At 7 p.m. Aug. 18, the Rangers open the season hosting Eau Claire Memorial.
