Former Aquinas standout ran camp for two days at Viterbo.

It was a part of his childhood that meant a lot.

This week, Bronson Koenig hoped his shooting clinic did the same for kids in La Crosse.

“Growing up, I went to as many camps as I possibly could,” Koenig, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Milwaukee Bucks, said. “I wanted to learn as much as I could. I just loved the game of basketball. So I remember going to the coach’s youth camp in La Crosse here, every year – just camps all over the midwest really. I was a fifth grader playing against eighth and high schoolers.”

The Bronson Koenig Shooting Academy took place at Viterbo University’s Mathy Center on Wed. and Thurs.

About 70 kids showed up for the camp. He drew smiles, dominating the youngsters in one on one, not afraid to send their shots into the wall (below).

“I definitely made it a point to have a camp in my home town of La Crosse,” Koenig said. “Just be around the kids, really.”

Afterwards, the 22-year-old posed for pictures, saying later it was important to give back to the area.

The four-year starter for the Wisconsin Badgers signed a two-way contract with the Bucks and will likely play for the team’s G-League affiliate the Wisconsin Herd out of Oshkosh, Wis. That season begins in October, though no schedule has been released yet.

Koenig played 78 total minutes for the Bucks in the NBA Vegas Summer League. In five games, he scored 26 points, going 10-for-34 from the field and 5-for-19 from beyond the arc.

Camp was a nice break after Summer League. One of his few days of freedom before he reports for camp.

“Really good experience for me to just get accustomed to the different playing style of the NBA,” Koenig said of Summer League, “and play with some of my teammates going into this coming year.”

Koenig helped lead the Badgers to two Final Fours, including the National Title game. His final year, he led the team in scoring (14.5 points per game) and finished his career with a school-record 270 3-pointers. He earned all-Big Ten second team honors, and was named to the all-Big Ten tournament team last season.
