Blair-Taylor softball headed to first-ever state championship
Freshman pitcher Steien has big day in Wildcats win
MADISON, Wis. — It was a day to remember for Blair-Taylor High School freshman Lauren Steien. Well, a day to remember, until Saturday, that is.
From the plate and from the circle, Steien has the B-T softball team in its first-ever state championship game.
She went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI from the plate and pitched a five-inning shutout in an 11-0 Division 5 state semifinal win over Wausaukee on Thursday.
At 8 a.m. Saturday from Goodmand Diamond, B-T (24-3) will face McDonell Central (21-4), which defeated Belmont (28-3), 5-4.
Steien struck out seven and gave up just two hits and no walks in the win. She came into B-T’s first-ever state tournament appearance with a 23-3 record and 1.26 ERA.
The Wildcats had 13 hits. Cierra Curran was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Ari Charles and Janesa Janzen were both 2-for-4 and Katrina Keller came in and went 2-for-2 with two RBI for B-T.
