Only two reasons needed for this to be a sweep

The rubber match for the NBA championship gets underway tonight and the consensus seems to be that the Cleveland Cavs will repeat.

I, however, never seem to fall in line. I have the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA Finals in four games.

The reasons are quite simple. There are only two.

Simpler than these reasons that everyone else is saying:

  • The Warriors added a Top 3 player in the NBA in Kevin Durant, who averaged 25 points and shot 54 percent this season — and only upped that to 56% in the playoffs, keeping the same average.
  • Steph Curry is no longer hampered by the injury that plagued him last Finals into shooting 44 percent, averaging 25 points, after he shot 50% from the field and averaged 30 during the regular season. This postseason, Curry is back to shooting 50% in the playoffs, averaging 29 points — this with Durant on the team.
  • Golden State will, presumably, have Draymond Green for the entire duration of the Finals. He won’t be mysteriously suspended a game for standing up as LeBron James walks over him. (Note: Golden State, up 3-1 last year, lost Green for a one-game suspension because of the video below and, of course, the Cavs went on to win the next three games when the series was all but over).

Nope, that’s not why the Warriors will sweep the Cavs this season.

Golden State’s going to win for two reasons:

  1. The Warriors have Zaza Pachulia. Need I say more? Does he take LeBron out? I don’t know.
  2. The Cavs don’t have Matthew Dellavedova. OK, the first one is kind of a joke — unless Zaza does take LeBron out. It’s not like he’s done that kind of thing in the past, though. Dellavedova, however. If he’s not taking out guys at the knees, he was, at least, kind of a nuisance for Curry last year — an injured Curry. Two years ago, he was at everyone’s knees. Now, he’s on the Bucks, making nearly $40 million.
