Seahawks taking a look at Kaepernick, RGIII
Wilson has never missed a game
RENTON, Wash. — Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday that the team is considering Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III as possible backup options to starting quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson has never missed a game.
This offseason, cornerback Richard Sherman and Bennett said they thought Kaepernick was being blackballed by NFL teams.
Last season Kaepernick threw for 2,241 yards (59.2 completion percentage) with 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.
The 29-year-old Milwaukee, Wis., native also rushed 69 times for 468 yards (6.8 average) and two touchdowns.
Griffin has played in just 14 games the last two seasons – five last season, where he threw for 886 yards (59.2 percent) with two touchdowns and three interceptions. The 27-year-old also rushed for 190 yards with two touchdowns (he rushed for 176 yards the season before with the Redskin, in four more games).
In an interview, Carroll was asked specifically about the pair of veteran quarterbacks who would seem to fit the style Seattle desires in Wilson’s backup.
“We’re looking at everybody. We really are,” Carroll told KIRO-AM. “We’ve been tracking everything that is going on and we’ve got cap and roster issues and stuff like that that we’re trying to make sure we manage properly but quite frankly, yes, we’re looking at all those guys.”
Trevone Boykin served as Wilson’s backup last season but has run into off-field issues during the offseason. Carroll often praised Kaepernick when he was with San Francisco.
During the Week 17 finale against the Seahawks, Kaepernick went 17-for-22 for 215 yards and a touchdown.
