Badgers QBs throw one incompletion in Cotton Bowl win
Western Michigan suffers only loss of season.
ARLINGTON, Tex. — To say the quarterbacks were accuarate might be an understatement when it comes ot the University of Wisconsin football team’s Cotton Bowl.
The eighth-ranked Badgers took down No. 15 Western Michigan 24-16.
Wisconsin quarterbacks combined to throw just one incompletion the entire game. Bart Houston was 11-for-12, while freshman Alex Hornibrook was 2-for-2.
Wisconsin was up 14-0 after the first quarter.
The Broncos (13-1) pulled within 17-10 in the third quarter and within eight points with just 3:27 to go in the game.
After that touchdown, Wisconsin (11-3) recovered the onside kick and proceeded to run out the clock, thanks to two third-down conversions.
The first was a Houston 26-yard completion to Troy Fumagalli on third and 8. Fumagalli also caught the lone TD pass by Wisconsin QBs – an 8-yarder from Hornibrook that gave Wisconsin a 24-10 lead with 12:26 to go in the game.
The second third-down conversion came on an Austin Ramesh 10-yard run on third and 6.
Houston finished with 159 yards passing.
Wisconsin RB Corey Clement rushed 22 times for 71 yards (3.1 ypc.) and scored the game’s opening TD.
Western Michigan QB Zach Terrell was 16-for-28 for 157 yards with a TD and an interception.
