Top seed in “Sweet 16” on line today for Viterbo
V-Hawks, Doane both 2-0 heading into 3 p.m. matchup
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Just six times this season Viterbo University’s volleyball team has found itself trailing after the first set.
That’s what happened Wednesday in the NAIA tournament, but the No. 2-ranked V-Hawks had no problems after that against No. 18 Carroll (Mont.).
After falling 25-23, Viterbo won its 38th consecutive match getting the next three sets 27-25, 25-13, 25-20.

That sets up a matchup at 3 p.m. today to win the four-team pool against No. 15 Doane (25-8).
While, both teams will move on to the 16-team, single-elimination tournament, today’s game will determine who gets the better seed.
Doane swept both Ozarks and Carroll, while Viterbo (41-2) also swept the Ozarks but, of course, went 3-1 vs. Carroll.
In that matchup, Natalie Geidel led Viterbo with 20 kills, hitting .459 perent. Teammates Sara Biermaier had 15, Siera Skow added 12 and Emilee Wiersma killed 10.
Amelia Grahn had a double-double for the V-hawks with 54 assists and 10 digs, while Baylee Gross led the team with 17 digs.
