LISTEN: Tennessee Titan and Caledonia alum Karl Klug weighs in on his old football team’s dominance
Warriors back in state title vs. same team Klug lost to in 2005
I gave Tennessee Titan and 2006 Caledonia High School alum Karl Klug a call Monday afternoon to give him hell (again) about losing the state football championship his senior year.
Klug, 28, loves talking about it, really. Listen to the interview here.
You can also search “Obstructed View Rick Solem” on iTunes and download the podcast right here.
That 2005 season was one that turned the Warriors into a powerhouse, despite falling to Eden Valley-Watkins in a 21-7 upset.
Caledonia was back at state for the first time in 29 years. Ranked third and undefeated (13-0), while Eden Valley wasn’t ranked and 11-2.
All signed pointed to blowout.
It didn’t happen. But there have been plenty since, and the Warriors will come full circle with their nemesis, fourth-ranked Eden Valley-Watkins (11-1) at 1 p.m. Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Again, Caledonia is the favorite. Again 13-0. This time ranked No. 1 and coming off a 14-0 state title run last season.
Since the 2005 state title loss, the Warriors haven’t lost a state championship game in the six times they’ve been there. They’re looking for No. 7 and Klug will be listening.
