Hixon trail project gets $75,000 over next three years
Also, life-size statue of Babe Weingent will go up in park
A new trail project in Hixon Forest is getting a funding boost thanks to 10 local construction business’ contributions.
Jay Odegaard from the La Crosse park department says the city will get $25,000 a year for the next three years in support of the trail project.
Hixon will also get an addition courtesy of an art class at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The city park board has endorsed a plan for a special metal sign to be installed on the Building Champions Trail being developed by the university and the park department.
The board also approved a proposal to come up with specific names for trails in the bluffs and the marsh, which may not have any names at all.
Lastly, the board approved putting a life-size statue of Babe Weigent at the northeast corner of Weigent Park in La Crosse.
That’s where Weigent taught and coached at the old Central High School.
