Holmen can’t complete, while Central falls
On its brand new field for the first time, the Logan High School football team won its home-opener in convincing fashion.
Quarterback Trey Davis and CJ Siegel connected for three touchdowns (16, 9 and 24 yards). Davis also threw another – the first of the game – to Andy Metcalf and ran in another TD.
Davis finished 14 of 18 for 162 yards with one interception. Malik Brown led the Rangers (1-1) with 122 yards on 14 carries.
Eau Claire Memorial 31, Central 14: A 24-7 halftime lead was too much to overcome, despite three turnovers by Memorial. The Red Raiders, outgained 418-190, had none.
Superior 35, Holmen 30: It was 35-12 heading into the fourth quarter before Holmen woke up. The Vikings converted two onside kicks and scored three TDs late but ran out of time. Seth Wilson had 31 carries for 269 yards and three rushing TDs in the loss.
West Salem 26, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 25: Down four with under 6 minutes to go, on fourth-and-21, Ryan Beirne hit Brent Heilman for a 38-yard touchdown that decided the game.
Onalaska 42, Mosinee 14: Brayton Duin went 14-for-21 for 362 yards with 4 TDs – the first, a 63-yarder to Noah Fredrickson, broke a school record. Zach Schmidt had the career passing mark with 26.
Tomah 20, Black River 6: Gunner Boettcher had a 23-yard TD run and threw a 28-yard TD on a halfback pass for the Timberwolves.
Sparta 19, Westby 7: Ryan Wisniewski had 74 yards rushing and 129 in the air, including a 13-yard TD pass to Caleb Schauf.
Onalaska Luther 26, Cashton 7: Sam Babinec had three touchdown passes, including a 65-yarder to Dan Walsh, in leading Luther.
Melrose-Mindoro 40, Viroqua 15: Sam Boone was 9-for-16 for 206 yards with three long TDs – 33 yards to Evan Peterson, 54 yards to Erik Christopherson and 42 yards to Andy Antony – for M-M.
Bangor 50, Blair-Taylor 0: Five players scored Bangor’s seven touchdowns, including two each from Caleb Miedema (a 46-yard reception and a 35-yard fumble recovery) and Drew Johnson (two 1-yard runs), who also threw that TD to Miedema.
