WIAA TOURNEY: Onalaska looks to take down Stoughton
Tipoff at 1:35 p.m. from Resch Center
GREEN BAY, Wis. — There’s a first time for everything and today is just that for the Onalaska High School girls basketball team.
For the first time in school history, the Hilltoppers have made it to the WIAA state tournament. At 1:35 p.m. Onalaska (21-5) takes on Stoughton (24-2) at the Resch Center in the Division 2 state semifinals. Pregame begins at 1:20 p.m. and can be heard on AM 580 WKTY or click listen now above.
“Not everyone can say they were the first to do anything,” Onalaska AD Charlie Ihle said. “But to have a team come together, and certainly there’s been success throughout the year, but it’s special for the girls and the coaching staff to say ‘Yeah, we were the first to make it there at Onalaska High School.'”
Stoughton, which has won 23 consecutive games, entered the playoffs the fourth-ranked team in Division 2. The Vikings have a trio of 6-footers in the starting lineup – one getting Division I offers, while another is committed to a Division II Michigan Tech.
Onalaska headed into the playoffs ranked just outside the Top 10. On the other half of the bracket, third-ranked Notre Dame (24-2) takes on No. 8 New Berlin Eisenhower (21-5).
