Viterbo heads to Elite Eight
V-Hawks sweep pool play, earn bye
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Now, it waits. After sweeping three matches in pool play to open the NAIA tournament, the Viterbo University volleyball team has earned a bye.
The No. 2-ranked V-Hawks beat 12th-ranked Georgetown College 3-1 (25-18,25-19,23-25,25-22) Thursday to complete the sweep.
At 8 p.m. tonight, Viterbo (39-4) plays this afternoon’s winner between sixth-ranked Vanguard (24-6) and No. 14 MidAmerica Nazarne (28-10).
Against Georgetown, setter Amelia Grahn had 47 assists, 11 digs, while Sara Biermaier had 19 kills, nine digs. Jennifer Krentz had 38 digs, while Natalie Geidel had 11 kills for the V-Hawks, who have won 11 in a row.
Viterbo held Georgetown to .132 hitting, also getting double-digit digs from Jess Jerde (16) and Baylee Gross (11).
