Rangers couldn’t keep up in fourth

It was a rollercoaster rider for three quarter between Logan and Reedsburg. But, when it counted in the fourth quarter, the Beavers put things away.

In the second round of the Division 3 Wisconsin playoffs, the Rangers’ season ended, 45-34.

It wasn’t a good start for Logan, as Chris Jepson went 68 yards on the first play from scrimmage to give Reedsburg (8-3) the 7-0 lead.

Logan, however, wasn’t fazed and Nathan Baker brought the team right back on three consecutive plays from scrimmage.

First, Trey Davis hit Baker for a 10-yard touchdown. Then, Baker sacked Jack Yaker, forcing a fumble that Manny Buckhanan recovered. And, on that third-consecutive play, Logan ran a pitch pass to Baker, who hit Jack Hinton for a 22-yard touchdown and a 14-7 lead to cap off a wild first quarter.

In the second, Reedsburg turned it on. The Beavers got back-to-back touchdowns, before Logan (8-3) answered on a Davis 12-yard TD to Andy Metcalf with 51 seconds remaining in the first half.

To start the third quarter, Baker continued the play-making, catching a 22-yard score from Davis to tie the game at 28-28.

After that, it was almost all Reedsburg, scoring the next 17 and finishing the game outscoring Logan 24-6.

The Beavers won the game on the ground, rushing 52 times for 389 yards, led by Jepson’s 236 yards on just 16 carries.

Reedsburg only outgained the Rangers 446-390. Davis was 18-for-28 for 216 yards with four touchdowns, but also had two interceptions. Logan lost two fumbles, as well, though the Beavers lost three.
