Overtimes and big performances dominate Friday Night Lights
The Mississippi Valley Conference championship game took place a week ago when Holmen and Logan high schools’ football teams played one another.
The Rangers pulled out the come-from-behind victory and just had to get through the rest of the conference for the crown.
Friday, West Salem ruined that plan with a dominating second half and a 35-21 win at Logan.
Zach Pierce rushed 20 times for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns, while quarterback Tim Schauf threw for 133 and ran for 88 and two scores in leading the Panthers (3-4, 2-3).
Manny Buchanan had 161 yards on 25 carries for Logan (5-2, 4-1), which led 14-8 at half, before West Salem went on a 27-0 run to pull away.
HOLMEN 48, CENTRAL 19
HOLMEN, Wis. – It was 7-7 after a quarter, before Zac Rusk woke the Vikings (5-2, 4-1) up with back-to-back touchdown runs of 80 and 44 yards in the second quarter. Rusk finished with 150 yards on just five carries, while teammate Connor Duncan had 11 carries for 112 yards and two TDs.
Holmen outgained Central (0-7, 0-5) 429-306 on the ground.
SPARTA 21, AQUINAS 20
A Jacob Edwards 27-yard touchdown in the third quarter was enough to fend off the Blugolds. Edwards finished with 100 yards on 18 carries.
Tyler Young was 10-for-22 for 203 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions for Aquinas.
TOMAH 20, ONALASKA 14 (OT)
On third-and-goal from the 2, Ben Venner gave Tomah the overtime win.
Onalaska, which threw three incompletes, then an interception, to begin overtime, tied the game with 3:11 remaining when Luke Hackner threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Turriff.
Josh Peardot had 34 rushes for 208 yards and a TD, while Venner scored two TDs in the win.
