GET’S Lamke and Cashton’s Schreier win titles

Pamela Fuchsel nearly got the upset. The Aquinas High School senior was a hurdle away from winning a Division 2 WIAA state track and field championship in the 300-meter hurdles.

Heading into the event Saturday at UW-La Crosse, Jefferson junior Mikaela Grant had already set a state record in the preliminaries the day before (43.63 seconds). And it didn’t look like Saturday’s final was going to be a race, as Fuchsel’s preliminary of 45.27 was the second-best time in the field.

That, however, is why they race, and Fuchsel had the lead heading into the final hurdle, before Grant made the pass and took the win in 45.03. Fuchsel came in at 45.1.

GET’s Lamke gets another title

She won a state title as a sophomore in the shot put. Saturday, in the Division 2 discus, Lamke ended her Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau career with another state title.

The senior uncorked a 140-4 on her very first throw and that ended up being the winner. Lamke finishes her career the school-record holder in both shot and disc.

Cashton’s Schreier wins triple, teammate takes third

The duo of Betsy Schreier and Jamie Schmitz (pictured above) could not have asked for a much better showing in the triple jump.

Schreier, a senior, won the event with a 37-foot, 10-inch distance. Schmitz took third at 36-2.75.

The only thing that would have made it better for the pair is if Schmitz could have caught Cuba City junior Sadie Murray, who took second (36-7).

Luther’s Kick takes silver

Onalaska Luther junior Isabelle Kick won the third medal of her career, taking second in the 100 hurdles (15.95). Last year, she helped Luther win a 400 relay title. The year before, that same team with Kick on it, took second.
