Bangor’s Kravik wins championship, G-E-T’s Lamke takes third
The first half of the WIAA State Track and Field meet has begun and the area has already produced a state champion, after the Division 2/3 portion wrapped up Friday at UW-La Crosse.
Today’s finals will begin at 9:30 a.m. for all divisions.
Bangor junior Kellen Kravik won the pole vault with a 14-foot, 6-inch height in the Division 3 portion of state on Friday.
In Division 2 girls, Aquinas senior Pamela Fuchsel finished with the second-fastest time in the 300-meter hurdles, setting a school record in 45.27 seconds. Winning in today’s final will be tough, however. Jefferson junior Mikaela Grant set a state record with a 43.63 preliminary. Freedom’s Melissa Talbot set the record of 44.03 in 2002.
Aquinas senior Jennifer Lichter finished just out of the medals with a seventh place in the 1,600-meter final (15:10). She is the third seed in tomorrow’s 3,200 finals. Teammate Collin Meyer is seeded eighth in today’s 400 final (49.97).
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau’s Annalese Lamke took third in the shot put with a (40-11.75).
This was the fourth consecutive year Lamke has medalled at state in shot. The senior was a state champ in 2013. She will compete in the discus tomorrow, where she’s seeded fifth.
Arcadia junior Jim Hoesley finished with the best preliminary in the 300 hurdles (38.58) and had the third-best time in both the 100 and 200 (10.9, 21.59, respectively).
Other finals from the first half of Friday’s meet:
West Salem’s Mac Anderson finished fifth in the boys pole vault (13-9) in Division 2.
In Division 3, Caiden Haake finished fifth for Alma/Pepin in the discus (151-4).
For the girls in D3, Junior Jamie Schmitz finished fifth in the long jump (17 .5) for Cashton.
And Sophomore Rylee Gabel took sixth in the high jump (5-2), for Cochrane-Fountain City.
