Softball teams clinch one-run victories, along with other section results

La Crosse, Wis. – The top-ranked Logan High School softball team took down the defending state champions Wednesday night.

Junior Jordyn Kleman struck out the final two batters in a 2-1 win over Mosinee in the Division 2 sectional.

Kleman struck out 12, walked one and gave up just two hits in the complete-game victory.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, the Rangers (25-1) move on to play Baldwin-Woodville (24-4) at Medford.

DIVISION 1
Central 3, Madison East 2

LA CROSSE, Wis. – One run wins are always dicey, especially this deep into the playoffs, but Leah Kramer came through for the Red Raiders.

Bottom of the seventh, the sophomore pitcher had runners at second and third with just one out and the top of the order coming up.

No big deal. Kramer struck out the final two – her eighth and ninth of the game – to punch Central’s ticket to the section championship.

There, the No. 2-seeded Red Raiders (19-8) will play fourth-seed DeForest (20-9) at 5 p.m. in Wanakee, Wis., to get to state. Central hasn’t been to the state tourney since 2002.

DIVISION 3
Cuba City 2, Luther 0

ONALASKA, Wis. – Luther fell to 23-2, as its 23-game winning streak came to an end.

Both Cubans (22-2) runs came on infield hits. Luther did get to pitcher Emily Wiederholt, who gave up just two hits, by loading the bases in the fifth, but came up empty.

Cuba City’s runs came after two walks in the second inning with two outs, that eventually came around to score.

DIVISION 4
C-FC 13, Glenwood City 3

AUGUSTA, Wis. – For the second consecutive season, Cochrane-Fountain City is a win away from state.

C-FC (21-4) plays McDonell in a rematch of last year’s section championship. Game starts at 5 p.m. Thursday in Gilman, Wis.

Cashton 8, De Soto 5

ONTARIO, Wis. – Cashton was down 4-0 heading into the sixth before the bats came alive.

Cashton scored three in the fourth, another in the fifth, two in the sixth and took the lead for good with a two-run top of the seventh.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, Cashton plays Juda/Albany in Muscoda, Wis.
