Former Brewers slugger kickoff Loggers Opening Day
Stormin’ Gorman to speak at Copeland
LA CROSSE, Wis. – They called him “Stormin’ Gorman,” former Milwaukee Brewers slugger, Gorman Thomas. The all-star back in the day will be the Loggers’ guest for Opening Day, May 28.
Thomas, who will speak during the “Celebration of Baseball” lunch at 11:30 a.m. at Copeland Park, hit more home runs (197) than anyone in the American League between 1978-83.
He hit more than 30 homers five times – back before steroids, and when 30 home runs was the benchmark for greatness – and was the home run champ in 1979 and ’82, the same two seasons he was in the running for AL MVP.
Thomas spent 11 seasons in the majors from 1973-86 for Milwaukee, Cleveland and Seattle. He started and ended his career a Brewer. He has 268 career home runs. He is also a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame.
Tickets are available now for the “Celebration of Baseball” luncheon and the game at 7:05 p.m. that evening cost $10. Call 608-796-9553 or stop down at the ticket office at 1225 Caledonia Street between 8-5 Monday-Friday.
