Krambeer lights it up for R-P at state
MINNEAPOLIS – Charlie Krambeer picked a good time to be on fire.
The Rushford-Peterson High School senior scored 28 of his 33 points in the first half of a 105-58 win Thursday over Fond du Lac Ojibwe on Thursday in the opening round of the Minnesota Class A state tournament at Williams Arena.
Krambeer, who played just 23 minutes, finished 7-for-9 from beyond the arc and 12-for-17 from the field. He also managed six assists and three steals. The top-seeded and top-ranked Trojans will play in the semifinals at noon Friday against Central Minnesota Christian (24-3) at the Target Center.
R-P (30-1), which led by as many as 50 late in the second half, was 16-for-27 from beyond the arc – three shy of a state record for 3-pointers made.
The Trojans missed 11 shots in the first half (23-for-34), heading into the locker room up 61-27. They missed 12 shots in the second half (18-for-30).
Ojibew (27-3) had 18 turnovers. R-P finished with 12 steals from nine players. It scored 29 points off turnovers.
Alex Vix had two steals, six assists and 10 points, going 4-for-5 from the field and 2-for-3 from 3. Jacob Merchlewitz had 13 points, he went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Kyler Paulson didn’t miss. He was 6-for-6 from the field, 2-for-2 from the line in scoring 14 points.
