Olson, V-Hawks dominate in tourney
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The first round of pool play in the NAIA tournament was no problem for the Viterbo University volleyball team.
The V-Hawks got 18 kills from NAIA kills leader Alicia Olson in the 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-22) win over No. 16 Madonna.
At 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Viterbo (36-7), ranked ninth in the country, plays No. 23 Coastal Georgia (35-2) in the second round of pool play, before wrapping up pool play with fourth-ranked Biola on Thursday.
Prior to Viterbo’s win, Biola (29-4) gave Coastal Georgia its second loss of the season, winning 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-13).
The V-Hawks need to place in the top two in pool play to advance to Friday’s round of 12.
Against Madonna, Viterbo setter Brianna Brinkman had 37 assists. The V-Hawks had 45 kills and just 11 errors. Madonna had 41 kills on 23 errors.
Libero Jennifer Krentz had 13 digs for Viterbo, which made it to the quarterfinals of the NAIA tournament two seasons ago.
