PLAYOFFS: Arcadia loses rematch, can’t match Lancaster
By RICK SOLEM
ARCADIA, Wis. – The Arcadia High School football team scored first, but then it was a game of “anything you can do, I can do better.”
After Rob Hoesley hit Lee Pronschinske for a 7-yard touchdown 3 minutes, 52 seconds into the game, Lancaster matched everything the Raiders (11-1) did and then some, until it wore them down.
When it was all said and done, Lancaster blew out the Raiders 43-29 in the WIAA Division 5 state quarterfinals.
The Flying Arrows (11-1), who lost to the Raiders 31-24 on Sept. 5, answered that touchdown, recorded a safety to take the lead and then simply matched everything Arcadia did.
After the safety, Rob Hoesley hit Jim Hoesley for an 81-yard TD to take a 16-9 lead.
Lancaster answered to go up 16-14.
Then Pronschinske scored from 13 out to go up again. Lancaster answered, taking a 22-21 at half and never looked back.
The Arrows kicked a field goal in the third, then scored back-to-back TDs in the fourth to go up 40-21 – all while keeping the Raiders out of the end zone.
It wasn’t until there were 22 seconds remaining that Pronschinske scored again. By then it was, of course, too late.
Lancaster outgained Arcadia just 367-322, led by Nate Tranel’s 194 yards rushing on 23 carries – three for TDs.
