Thomas scorching from deep
AMES, Iowa – Matt Thomas hit a career best four 3-pointers Monday night.
The freshman helped 18th-ranked Iowa State to a 99-70 win over Auburn at the Hilton Coliseum.
Thomas, an Onalaska native, was 4-for-9 from the field, 4 of 8 from beyond the arc in scoring 14 points. Â He also pitched in three rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes.
This was the fifth game in double figures for Thomas, who has hit two or more 3-pointers in five of six games this season for the Cyclones (6-0).
Thomas is averaging 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and .8 turnovers this season. He is shooting 23-for-48 from the field and 14 of 35 from beyond the arc.
Iowa State shot 13-for-35 from beyond the arc as a team and just 45 percent from the field, but the Tigers (4-2) were an abysmal 36 percent from the field and 6 of 23 from beyond the arc.
Dustin Hogue led ISU with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 16 rebounds, while teammate Melvin Ejim added 14 points, 10 rebounds.
