Not only will the Milwaukee Brewers be missing Jimmy Nelson for a potential playoff run.

The starting pitcher will also be gone for a “chunk” of the 2018 season.

Nelson had successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder Wednesday.

Afterward, Brewers general manager David Stearns told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that the right-hander will have to miss “a chunk” of the 2018 season while rehabbing from his injury. How long that means, isn’t clear.

Nelson was injured Sept. 8 diving back to first base while trying to avoid being picked off.

The 28-year-old was having his best season in his five-year career. He was 12-6 with a 3.49 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. Nelson had 199 strikeouts and 48 walks in 175⅓ innings.

Last season, Nelson was 8-16 with a 4.62 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. He had 140 strikeouts, 86 walks in 179⅓ innings.
