Caledonia a win from state title shot

    Written by

The Caledonia High School boys basketball team is a game away from a state championship berth.

That's something it hasn’t done since head coach Josh Diersen, and assistant Jeremy Leis, helped it win back in 1997.

Central girls headed to state, Luther falls

MARSHFIELD, Wis. – The Central High School girls basketball team is headed to state.

In what has been a theme quite a bit this season, the Red Raiders didn’t play pretty but, again, won.

MADISON – He’s 6-foot-10. He’s the fourth-ranked player in the class of 2015 on rivals.com. And he was too much for Blair-Taylor High School’s boys basketball team to handle.

In the WIAA Division 4 state championship Saturday, junior Diamond Stone had 28 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks in leading Whitefish Bay Dominican to a 74-50 win at the Kohl Center and its third consecutive state title.

I do not pretend to know much about college basketball.

My mom could – and will - probably pick a better bracket than I could - no offense to moms out there, but mine doesn’t particularly care about sports, minus Facebook pictures of Aaron Rodgers that aren’t so much about football.

Central girls look for upset at state

It’s been quite a ride for Central High School’s girls basketball team.

A bumpy ride mostly, but a ride to the WIAA Division 2 state tournament all the same.

The Red Raiders (21-5) have grinded their way back to the tournament for the first time since second-place finishes in both 1994 and 1995.

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. - A free throw, that's what ended the Central High School's girls basketball season, a game ... a point away from a state championship bid.

The Red Raiders lost in the WIAA Division 2 state semifinals to fifth-ranked DeForest 43-42 Friday at the Resch Center.

Brewers keep Overbay, Reynolds; waive Francisco

The Milwaukee Brewers made a sort of baffling move in my opinion Monday.

They released Juan Francisco, electing to go with Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds at first base – Reynolds can also fill in for Aramis Ramirez at third when he’s inevitably injured.
